Shutter Count
How many photos has your camera taken? Add a photo straight from your camera and the count appears below. It is read right here in your browser; your photo is never uploaded.
Getting an accurate count
Use the original file
Copy a photo straight from the memory card or the camera's app. Editing or exporting (Lightroom, Photoshop, Capture One), texting, and posting online all remove the private notes where cameras keep the count.
Use your newest photo
The count is saved the moment a photo is taken. For today's number, take a fresh shot and add that one.
What the number means
Every shutter wears a little with each photo. Most are built to last somewhere between 100,000 and 500,000 shots, depending on the camera, so a count well under that has plenty of life left.
Which cameras record a count
- Nikon Yes Nearly every DSLR and Z camera. Mirrorless bodies also show the mechanical shutter on its own.
- Sony Yes Many Alpha cameras.
- Pentax Yes Most DSLRs.
- Fujifilm Yes Many X and GFX cameras record an image count.
- Canon Usually not Most Canon cameras keep the count inside the camera, not in the photo. A few professional bodies are the exception.
- Phones Usually not Phones have no mechanical shutter to wear out, so there is no count.
- Others Some models Some Olympus, OM System, Panasonic, and Leica models. Try a photo and see.
